Prologue: Awakening

It has always been a difficult task to distinguish a sin from a virtue, especially in the case of envy. When does a healthy desire to better oneself become an all consuming fiery hatred of someone who has already achieved the trait or obtained the object you want?

The emotion of envy is so ambiguous that no one can truly define it. One persons envy is another mans admiration. When you read this I ask that you take that into account and do not judge those that you may see as the sinners. It is rare, maybe even impossible to find a truly evil doer. Only in fairytales do such things exist.

This is not a fairytale, nor is it a fable. This is simply the retelling of events in such a way to teach and inspire those who dare to read on. The rollercoaster ride my life has always been deserves to be documented, even if it is in this crude manner of story telling. If not for my own sake, then for those that have suffered in my plight. Those that have died, been tortured, gone insane. This is for them.

I had never anticipated that I could be so wounded by emotion, nor that I would become the object of someone else's devoted suffering. It is an odd thing, envy. Without it we are nothing but when we embrace it whole heartedly we become a shell full of nothing. That is why we can never be truly sure of where it begins.

Maybe it is not truly a sin at all. Maybe it is simply a fact of life that humans will become jealous of one another from time to time and by varying degrees. Whatever the case, it can tear even the strongest of us to pieces.
The beginning of something I wrote a good two or three years ago.
